Description

Himalayan Dog Chew - Peanut Butter - Medium is a single medium hard cheese chew with bits of real peanut through it. It is the same pressed, smoked cheese block as the plain original, and it has to be softened at the end before your dog gets anywhere - which is exactly why it lasts.

Key Features

  • Hard Density: Himalayan's longest-lasting format. This is a chew to occupy a dog, not a reward to hand over in one go.
  • Made With: The traditional Himalayan cheese recipe with added bits of real peanuts.
  • Peanuts, not peanut spread: the flavour comes from peanuts in the cheese mix. Skip it if your dog reacts to peanuts.
  • Free From: lactose, grain and gluten, with no artificial flavours and no binding agents. The cheese is naturally smoked rather than smoke-flavoured.
  • Size: One Medium chew.

Choosing The Size

  • Himalayan print a Chewmeter on the back of the pack that matches the chew to your dog's weight, age and chewing style. It is worth reading rather than guessing from the photo.
  • The practical rule is simpler: the chew should be big enough that your dog cannot get it to the back of the mouth and swallow it. If in doubt, size up. A chew that is too big is only slower; one that is too small is a choking risk.
  • These are natural cheese blocks, so weight and shape vary a little from chew to chew within the same size.

Chewing Safely With A Hard Chew

  • This is a hard chew, and that cuts both ways. The hardness is what makes it last, and it is also the reason to pay attention. A determined dog that cracks down on a hard chew instead of working the end can chip or fracture a tooth. If your dog is a crusher rather than a gnawer, the softer Himalayan Churro or the Yogurt Sticks are the better buy.
  • Take the end piece away. The real hazard with any long chew is the last stub, small enough to swallow whole. Remove it while it is still clearly bigger than your dog's throat rather than waiting to see what happens. Then puff it in the microwave as below.
  • Supervise, and give it where you can see it. Not a crate chew, not a car chew, not a left-alone-in-the-garden chew.
  • Skip it if there is dental work or dental disease. Loose or broken teeth, extractions still healing, or any restoration - ask your vet before offering a hard chew at all.
  • One dog, one chew, out of reach of the others. Chews are the classic flashpoint for guarding between dogs that otherwise get on.

Puffing The Last Piece

  • Himalayan designed the chew so the end does not go in the bin. Take the leftover piece away from your dog, soak it in warm water for five minutes, microwave it for about 45 seconds at 1000 watts, then let it cool for a full two minutes before handing it over.
  • It puffs up like a cheese puff and goes soft, which is also what makes it safe to finish. Watch it while it is in the microwave, because times vary by wattage and a forgotten piece will scorch.
  • Let it cool properly. Straight out of the microwave it is hot enough to burn a mouth, and a dog waiting for a treat will not pause to check.

Good To Know

  • This listing is one Medium chew.
  • Protein in these chews is very high and the cheese is concentrated, so a whole chew is not a small snack. Count it against the day's food, not as an extra.
  • Treats of any kind should stay a small part of the day - around a tenth of the calories is the usual guidance. Take the difference out of meals rather than adding treats on top.
  • A new chew can loosen a stool for a day or two. Introduce it on a quiet day rather than before travel, and let your vet know if it does not settle.
  • Store somewhere cool and dry and do not refrigerate. In UAE heat keep it out of the sun and out of a hot car, where cheese chews sweat and soften.
  • Himalayan recommend these for dogs over 12 weeks old.
  • Fresh water alongside, always.
  • Not for human consumption, and wash your hands after handling a chewed treat.
