Catit Airsift Dual Action Air Pad - 2 Pack

The Catit Airsift Dual Action Air Pad is the replacement odour filter for a Catit sifting cat pan. Each pad is a carbon-impregnated polyester insert that sits in the lid and catches odour in the air moving out of the tray.

Key Features

• Activated Carbon: The carbon is impregnated through the polyester rather than coated on, which gives a large surface area for the air to pass across
• Two Per Pack: Catit's guidance is to change the pad regularly rather than wash it -- once the carbon is loaded it stops working, and washing it does not reset that
• Which Pan It Fits: Catit list it for the SmartSift sifting cat pan, updated model, catalogue number HA50685. The pan ranges have been renamed over the years, so check the number moulded into your pan before ordering
• Fits In The Lid: It drops into the filter recess in the hood. No tools, no trimming

What A Carbon Filter Can And Cannot Do

Activated carbon traps odour in the air passing through it. That works on the background smell of a tray in a small room; it does nothing to the litter itself. If the tray still smells with a fresh filter in, the answer is scooping twice a day, a full litter change more often, or a second tray -- the usual rule being one tray per cat plus one. A sudden strong change in the smell or volume of urine is worth a vet visit rather than a stronger filter.

Who Makes It

Catit is the cat brand of Rolf C. Hagen, the Montreal company founded in 1955. The Design Senses and Flower Fountain ranges are its best known, and parts for them are sold separately so a unit can be repaired rather than replaced.

Good To Know

• A carbon pad in a hooded tray does nothing for the cat's experience of the tray. Some cats dislike hoods, and a cat that has started going just outside the tray is often telling you it does not like being enclosed in it.
• Replace the pad sooner in a humid room. Damp carbon loads up far faster than dry carbon.
• Do not use scented litter deodorisers alongside it. Strong perfume is one of the commonest reasons a cat goes off its tray.
