The Coollapet Foraging Foot Toy is a clear plastic tube with capped ends and holes along its side - you fill it with seed or nuts, and the bird has to roll and shake it to get one piece out at a time.

Good To Know

• Fill it from the bird's own daily ration rather than adding extra treats, or foraging just becomes more food.
• Start easy. Leave the caps off until the bird has worked out where the food comes from, then put them back on.
• Discard the tube if the plastic cracks - a cracked edge is sharp, and a determined parrot will splinter it.
• Wash it and dry it fully between fills. Damp food in a warm bowl or tube grows mould within a day in this climate, and aspergillosis from mouldy food is one of the commonest killers of caged birds.
• A bird that stops playing, sits fluffed on the cage floor or goes quiet is showing the first signs of illness - birds hide sickness until they can no longer manage it. That is an urgent avian vet visit, not a wait-and-see.
