The Coollapet Wave Calcium Perch is the large size of Coollapet's moulded calcium perch - a wave-shaped bar that a bird can stand on and chew, thick enough for a medium or large parrot's foot.

Key Features

• Thicker than the Medium, which matters: a perch too thin for the bird means the foot never opens out properly.
• The wave profile changes diameter along its length, so the foot is not gripping the same spot all day.
• Coarse surface helps take the tips off the claws between nail trims.
• Coollapet also lists iodine in the mix, alongside the calcium.
• Threaded end and wing nut to fix it through the cage bars.

Good To Know

• A calcium perch is a supplement and a perch, not a diet. Do not count it as your bird's only mineral source.
• Never let this be the only perch. One diameter and one surface all day causes pressure sores and arthritis; birds need several perches of different thicknesses and materials, including natural wood.
• A bird that chews rather than perches will get through it fast and take in a great deal of calcium at once. If that is what yours does, take it out and offer a mineral block instead.
• Do not fit any perch directly above a food or water bowl.
• Replace it once it is soiled. A coarse, absorbent surface holds droppings.
• A bird that stops playing, sits fluffed on the cage floor or goes quiet is showing the first signs of illness - birds hide sickness until they can no longer manage it. That is an urgent avian vet visit, not a wait-and-see.
