Getting A Litter Mat To Work

• Put it directly against the tray with no gap. A mat a few centimetres away catches almost nothing, because the cat clears it in one stride
• If the tray has a door, the mat goes under the doorway so the cat lands on it
• Shake it out over the bin every couple of days, and rinse it under the tap weekly
• A mat reduces tracking. It does not eliminate it - fine-milled clumping litters travel further than anything else, and a second mat beyond the first is the usual fix

• Iago at 45x35cm suits the Big, Jumbo and Shuttle 57cm trays, and the Galaxy Jumbo and Roto-Toilet covered boxes
• Aladdin at 41.5x32cm is the one for the Junior, Max and Shuttle 45cm
• For a covered box, put the mat directly under the doorway so the cat lands on it rather than beside it

Who Makes It

• Georplast s.r.l. is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1970, based at Mezzago just outside Milan
• They injection-mould their own plastic rather than buying it in, and the whole pet range is made in Italy
• Design is done with an Italian studio, which is why the trays and carriers look less utilitarian than most of the category

Good To Know

• Rinse and dry it properly. Rubber mats are easy to clean and easy to leave damp underneath, which is where smell starts
• Lift it when you mop. Water trapped under a rubber mat on tile will mark the floor over time
• Cat faeces can carry toxoplasmosis. Anyone pregnant or immunosuppressed should avoid handling the tray where possible, and everyone should wash their hands properly afterwards
• Colours vary by batch and the photograph is a guide. Pick on size first - the colour is the part that matters least to the cat
