Description
Hobby Moonlight LED Terrarium Lamp - 3W is a 3W blue-white LED for watching nocturnal animals after dark. The honest version of what it does: it gives you enough light to see by, at a colour and intensity that most nocturnal species treat as moonlight rather than day, so they carry on behaving normally while you watch.

- Very Little Heat, which matters at night - a nocturnal species needs the temperature to drop, and a hot night lamp defeats that.

Using It Well
- Use it for viewing, not all night. Hobby note that moonlight can stimulate breeding and foraging, and that is true - but animals also need genuine darkness. Run it for an evening session rather than dusk to dawn.
- In a humid or misted terrarium, put it in a lampshade. Hobby specifically recommend a clamp lamp housing so water droplets cannot land on the LED.
- It is not a heat source and not a UV source. If your animal needs night-time warmth, that is a ceramic heat emitter; UV is a separate lamp again.
- Red or blue for night? Both are debated. Blue is generally considered less disruptive than red for most reptiles, but the least disruptive option of all is darkness plus a dim light only while you are actually watching.
Good To Know
- This listing is one 3W E27 lamp.
- UAE mains suits this. Hobby build to 230V 50Hz, which is what comes out of the wall here, so there is no voltage problem. The plug is the European two-pin type, so you will want an adapter or a UK plug fitted - and it is worth running tank and terrarium equipment through an RCD-protected socket.
- Put it on a separate switch or timer from the day lighting.
- LEDs dim gradually rather than failing outright. If nocturnal viewing has got harder over a couple of years, that is why.
