Description

Little One Bathing Sand For Chinchillas And Small Pets - 1kg is Little One's dust-bath sand for chinchillas, degus, gerbils and hamsters, in a 1kg pack.

Key Features

  • Fine, rounded grains: soft enough to work through a dense coat without scratching the skin.
  • Takes up oil and moisture: rolling in sand is how these species clean themselves, by working the grease out of the fur.
  • 1kg pack: sand can be sieved and reused between baths, so a kilo goes a long way.
  • For dry-bathing species: chinchillas, degus, gerbils and hamsters all dust-bathe given the chance.

How To Give A Sand Bath

  • Put two or three centimetres of sand in a bath house or a heavy, shallow dish that will not tip.
  • Offer it for ten to fifteen minutes and then take it away. Sand left in the cage gets used as a toilet and stops being a bath.
  • Two or three baths a week suits most chinchillas. Every day can dry the skin out.
  • Sieve the droppings out after each bath and replace the sand once it stops looking clean.

Good To Know

  • Never wash one of these animals in water. A chinchilla's coat holds water for days and can go mouldy against the skin, which is exactly why sand bathing exists.
  • If a pet has a sore eye or an open wound, leave the sand bath out of the cage until it has recovered and ask a vet.
  • This is bathing sand, not litter and not bedding. It is far too heavy and not absorbent enough to line a cage with.
  • Keep the pack closed and dry so the sand stays loose.
