PURINA PRO PLAN Large Robust Puppy Healthy Start with OPTISTART is a complete dry food for puppies of the heavier, more powerfully built large breeds. It contains dried colostrum, the first milk a bitch produces, which is naturally rich in antibodies and supports the immune system during the handover from the mother's immunity to the puppy's own.

Note the fat level: 15%, against 19% for a medium puppy and 21% for a small breed puppy. That is deliberate. Large and giant breed puppies that grow too quickly put real strain on developing joints, so this recipe is built to support steady growth rather than fast growth.

High quality chicken including back and chest (18%), rice (15%), dried poultry protein, wheat, soya meal, corn, animal fats, wheat middlings, digest, dried beet pulp, corn protein meal, wheat gluten, minerals, dried egg, fish oil, dried colostrum (0.1%).

Additives per kg

Nutritional additives: Vitamin A 26,000 IU, Vitamin D3 870 IU, Vitamin E 200 IU, Vitamin C 120 mg, plus iron, iodine, copper, manganese, zinc and selenium.

Technological additives: tocopherol extracts from vegetable oils 33 mg/kg.

Feeding Guide

  • Puppy feeding amounts depend on both current age and expected adult weight, so follow the full chart on the back of the pack rather than a single figure.
  • Split the daily ration across three to four meals for young puppies, reducing to two as they mature.
  • Do not overfeed a large breed puppy. Growing too quickly is a genuine risk to developing joints, and is harder to correct than growing slowly.
  • Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
  • When switching from another food, transition gradually over about 7 days.
