Schesir Bio Organic Chicken Wet Dog Food - 10 x 400 g

Schesir Bio Organic Chicken Wet Dog Food - 10 x 400 g is a certified organic complete wet food for mature dogs, made with chicken.

Key Features

• Certified organic, checked by an independent body: The brand's claim for the range, and the reason the tin costs what it does.
• One named meat, chicken: Which is what makes the range's single-protein claim mean something on this recipe.
• Complete and balanced: A whole diet rather than something to feed alongside.
• Animal protein as the main ingredient: Stated by the brand for the Bio range.
• Highly digestible: The brand's claim, and the usual argument for a short recipe.
• 400 g tins, ten of them: A meal-sized tin for a medium dog, and the largest format in the Bio range.

What Certified Organic Actually Means Here

• It means the ingredients were farmed to organic rules and that an independent certifier checked it, which is what the brand states for the whole Bio range.
• What it does not mean is more nutritious. Organic is a statement about farming method and verification, not about the analysis on the side of the tin, and we would rather say so than let the word do work it has not earned.
• Where it does earn its money is if organic farming is something you care about on its own terms. That is a sound reason to buy it, and it is the honest one.
• The brand also states cruelty-free production with no invasive animal testing for this range.

One Named Meat, Which Is The Point Of This Range

• Schesir states a single source of animal protein for the Bio range, and on this recipe the name backs that up: one meat and nothing else.
• That is what makes it worth a look for an elimination diet. If you are working out what a cat or dog reacts to, you need one protein at a time, and most foods quietly carry several.
• Two of the Bio cat recipes are named with beef AND chicken, so the single-source claim cannot hold for those. This is not one of them.
• Before you start an elimination diet, talk to your vet about how to run it. Done loosely it tells you nothing, and the treats are usually what ruins it.

A Complete Food, Unlike Schesir's Complements Line

• Complete and balanced, so this can be the whole diet.
• Worth saying because Schesir also sells a Complements line, which is a complementary food by its own label and carries a two-servings-a-day ceiling. The names are similar and the consequence is not.

Wet Food And Water, Which Matters More Here

• A wet food is roughly three-quarters water. In this climate that is water going in without the animal having to choose to drink.
• It also means you are buying water by weight, which is the honest reason a tin looks dear per kilogram next to a bag of dry food.

Opened Tins, In This Heat

• Cover an opened tin, refrigerate it, and use it within a day or two.
• Let it come back to room temperature first. Animals refuse cold food and you will think they have gone off it.
• Do not leave wet food down for hours in a warm room. This matters a great deal more here than it does in Italy, where it was formulated.

Good To Know

• The brand describes this as being for mature dogs rather than all ages. Tell us your dog's age and weight and we will say whether it is the right one.
• 400 g suits a medium or large dog at a meal. For a small dog you will be refrigerating most of every tin.
• Ask us for the ingredient panel and the analysis and we will photograph them. The front of a tin is not enough to compare two foods, and it is certainly not enough for an elimination diet.
