A Dry Food Carries Almost No Water

• That is the convenience and it is also the catch. A dog living on dry food alone has to drink the difference, and in this climate that is not a small difference.
• Keep water available and topped up, and consider a wet meal mixed through. Schesir's own feeding advice suggests alternating its dry and wet food, and says plainly that this is advisable rather than necessary.
• Reseal the bag and keep it out of the kitchen heat. The fat in a dry food goes off, and an opened bag here goes stale faster than the date suggests.

Good To Know

• Mix a new dry food into the old one over a week or so rather than swapping the bowl in one go. A sudden switch loosens most dogs, and you will blame the food rather than the speed of the change.
• Puppy food until roughly twelve months for a small breed, then move to an adult food over a week or so. Tell us the breed and we will be more precise.
• Soak the kibble in a little warm water for a very young puppy just off milk. Dry food straight from the bag is hard work at that age.
• Get a puppy used to wet food as well as dry while it is young. A dog set in its ways refuses anything new, and that becomes a real problem the day it needs a prescription diet.
• Ask us for the composition and the analysis and we will photograph them. Most of the Schesir dry dog foods do not publish theirs, and the front of a bag is not enough to compare two foods on.
