The Flamingo Drinking Bottle for Small Animals is a graduated water bottle for small pets with a stainless steel nozzle and a double ball valve, available in 150 ml, 250 ml and 500 ml.

Key Features

  • Stainless steel nozzle, which will not corrode and cannot be gnawed through the way a plastic spout can
  • Two ball bearings in the nozzle instead of one, which cuts down the dripping that soaks bedding under a single-ball bottle
  • Clear body with printed graduations, so you can see at a glance whether the animal has drunk
  • Fastening wire included to hang it on cage bars
  • Three sizes: 150 ml for mice and dwarf hamsters, 250 ml for hamsters and gerbils, 500 ml for rats, guinea pigs and rabbits
  • Made by Flamingo Pet Products, a Belgian pet supplier based in Olen with more than 45 years in the trade

Fitting And Filling

  • Hang it at the height of the animal's head when standing normally. Too high and a small animal strains its neck; too low and the nozzle fills with bedding
  • Fill it to the top. A part-filled bottle drips more, because there is less vacuum holding the water in
  • Tap the nozzle after fitting to check the balls move and water comes through
  • Show a new animal where it is by wetting the nozzle. Some will not find it on their own for a day or two
  • Change the water daily and rinse the bottle. A bottle brush is worth having — algae builds up in a clear bottle on a bright shelf

Good To Know

  • Check it every single day. A blocked or airlocked bottle is one of the commonest causes of a small pet becoming dangerously dehydrated, and there is no warning
  • Rabbits and guinea pigs drink far more than people expect and often do better from a heavy bowl, or from a bowl and a bottle together
  • Keep it out of direct sun. Water heats up fast in a clear bottle and algae follows
  • All three sizes share one SKU here, so make sure the right size is selected at checkout
