M-PETS Aloe Vera Dog Shampoo is the green-banded bottle in the M-PETS coat range, built on aloe vera and meant for a dog whose skin reacts to most things.

• The front reads ALOE VERA Shampoo, with a terrier puppy and a small aloe leaf roundel
• M-PETS put it forward for sensitive skin, and give aloe vera as mildly antibacterial and anti-inflammatory - their claim, not a medicine
• The name is printed along the bottom in five languages, which is how you tell the range apart on a shelf
• M-PETS give the formula as paraben free. This older 250 ml label does not print it anywhere; the newer labels in the range carry a Paraben Free roundel on the front

Good To Know

• Wet the coat right through before you start and rinse until the water runs clear. Shampoo left in the undercoat is the usual cause of itching a day or two later.
• Keep it out of the eyes and ears. Wash the head last, with your hand rather than a jug, and tip the muzzle down.
• Try a little on one patch and leave it a day before the first full bath, particularly on a dog that has reacted to anything before.
• The 5 L jug is the same shampoo in a jerrycan with a handle, marked 5 L and 169 fl oz. It is the size for a grooming room or a household of several dogs rather than for a cupboard.
• Sensitive skin that does not settle is a reason to see a vet rather than to keep changing shampoo. A gentle wash helps; it does not treat an allergy or an infection.
