Good To Know

• Wet the coat right through before you start and rinse until the water runs clear. Shampoo left in the undercoat is the usual cause of itching a day or two later.
• Keep it out of the eyes and ears. Wash the head last, with your hand rather than a jug, and tip the muzzle down.
• Dry the coat all the way through, especially a thick one. A coat left damp against the skin in this climate is how hot spots start, and a fan does more than a towel.
• Flaking that keeps coming back is a symptom, not a shampoo problem. Fleas, a food reaction, a thyroid problem and simple dry air all do it, and a vet will find the cause faster than a shelf of bottles.
• Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. A dandruff wash that is rinsed off straight away has not been in contact long enough to do anything.
