PURINA PRO PLAN VETERINARY SUPPLEMENTS Calming Care is a daily probiotic for dogs that display anxious behaviours. It contains Bifidobacterium longum BL999 at 1 x 10⁹ CFU per sachet.

The mechanism is worth understanding, because it is not a sedative and does not work like one. BL999 acts on the gut-brain axis, the two-way signalling between the digestive system and the brain. Gut flora influence that signalling, and this strain was selected because it shifts it in a direction that helps dogs cope. Nothing about it makes a dog drowsy.

It helps with behaviours such as excessive vocalisation, pacing, spinning and jumping, and with the anxiety behind separation distress and noise phobias.

Important: It Takes Time

This is not a same-day product. Allow up to six weeks of daily feeding for the full effect. If you are buying it for a specific event, fireworks, a house move, travel, start well in advance rather than the week before.

When to Use It

• Dogs showing separation-related distress when left alone
• Noise phobias, including fireworks and thunderstorms
• Excessive vocalisation, pacing, spinning or jumping
• Dogs facing a known upcoming change: a move, a new baby, boarding
• Alongside behavioural training, not instead of it

How to Use

• Give one sachet daily, sprinkled over your dog's normal food, or as directed by your vet.
• Allow up to 6 weeks for the full effect, and keep going daily throughout.
• Dosage is the same regardless of the dog's size.

Please note: a veterinary examination is recommended before using this product. Anxious behaviour can have medical causes, including pain, and those need diagnosing rather than supplementing. This is a complementary feed, not a medicine, and works best alongside behavioural training rather than in place of it.
