Exo Terra Bamboo Forest Floor is a 100% natural two-layer substrate that recreates an actual forest floor — sun-dried bamboo leaves over a nutrient-rich coconut husk fibre base.

Why Two Layers

This is the interesting part, and it copies how a real forest floor is built.

The coconut husk base holds moisture and gives plant roots drainage, aeration and natural rooting hormones. The bamboo leaf top layer then acts as a lid: it slows evaporation so the soil beneath stays damp far longer, and it gives small animals a loose, rustling layer to burrow into and hide under.

In a bioactive setup that leaf layer does more still. It is what springtails and isopods live in and feed on, and those organisms break down waste, keep mould in check and reduce odour — turning a terrarium into something closer to a self-maintaining ecosystem.

Directions for Use

1. Spread 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of the base layer across the terrarium floor.
2. Water or mist to reach your target humidity.
3. Arrange decor and plants.
4. Cover with the bamboo leaf top layer.
5. Monitor with an Exo Terra Hygrometer and adjust as needed.

Important: Impaction Risk

Any loose particulate substrate can be swallowed with food and cause gut impaction, which is serious and sometimes fatal.

• Feed in a dish, or move the animal to a separate feeding container.
• Keep the substrate damp, not waterlogged — saturated coconut fibre grows mould.
• Spot-clean waste daily.
