Choosing Your One Bulb

With a single socket the choice matters, because no bulb does everything. UVB fluorescents give the UV a reptile needs to make vitamin D3, but almost no visible light and no heat. A daylight bulb gives brightness and colour but no UVB. An incandescent adds warmth.

For most reptiles, UVB is the one to prioritise — it is the requirement that causes real harm when missed, since without it an animal cannot absorb dietary calcium. Add heat and visual light with a separate dome fixture alongside, or step up to a multi-socket top if your enclosure allows.

The built-in reflector pushes output downward rather than letting it escape into the room.
