The Exo Terra UV Reflector Lamp is a compact fixture with an extra-deep reflecting dome and a ceramic socket, designed to get considerably more out of the bulb you put in it.

Why the Reflector Is the Point

A bare bulb radiates in every direction, and most of that output goes into the room rather than the terrarium. A deep polished dome catches what would otherwise be wasted and redirects it downward — increasing UVB radiation by up to 100%.

That is worth understanding properly. It means the same bulb can deliver roughly twice the usable UVB simply by being housed correctly, so a fixture is not an afterthought once you have chosen a bulb. It also means that if you switch from a bare fitting to a reflector dome, you should reassess your mounting height, because the animal is now receiving considerably more.

Setting It Up

• Mount above the terrarium or on a stand, aimed at the basking area.
• Because the reflector roughly doubles UVB delivery, check your mounting distance against the bulb's effective range rather than reusing a height that worked with a bare fitting.
• Always leave a shaded area so your reptile can move out of the UV.

• The dome gets hot in use. Let it cool before handling or repositioning.
