The Exo Terra Faunarium Flat is a stackable plastic container in a low, wide format — for transporting, temporarily housing and quarantining reptiles, amphibians, mice, arachnids and insects, and for keeping live food.

Why the Flat Format

The low profile trades height for floor area, which is the right trade for ground-dwelling animals. Terrestrial geckos, small snakes, tarantulas and most feeder insects use the floor and never the ceiling, so a wide shallow box gives them more usable space than a tall one of the same volume — and stacks into less shelf height.

The Use Most People Underrate: Quarantine

A newly acquired reptile should be kept separately for several weeks before going near an established collection. Parasites and infections are common in newly imported and rehomed animals, often with no visible signs at first, and one introduction can spread through a collection before you know anything is wrong. A plain plastic container is ideal: easy to disinfect completely, and easy to observe an animal in.

Important

A faunarium is for temporary housing and transport, not a permanent home. It has no provision for proper heating, lighting or a temperature gradient.

• Keep out of direct sunlight — a closed plastic box in the sun overheats within minutes.
• Use plain paper towel as substrate when quarantining, so you can see droppings clearly and change it daily.
• Wash your hands between handling quarantined and established animals.
