Description
JBL SilicatEx Rapid is a filter material that takes silicate out of aquarium water. Silicate feeds diatoms, the brown coating that appears on glass, decor and plants, especially in new tanks.
Key Features
- Stops Diatoms At The Source: JBL say diatoms are kept away when silicate stays below about 0.4 mg/l.
- Also Binds Phosphate: the pack states it removes silicate and phosphate.
- Goes In The Filter: fill it into the filter bag supplied and place it in your filter.
- Freshwater And Marine: for use in either kind of aquarium.
Good To Know
- Rinse the material before use to wash off dust.
- Rinse it again after one to two weeks of use.
- Test the silicate level from time to time. When it starts to rise again, the material is used up and needs replacing.
- Tap water is often the main source of silicate. Treating the water before it goes into the tank keeps the load down.
