Description
The Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Tall is a glass habitat designed by European herpetologists, built taller than it is deep for species that climb.
Why Height Matters
Floor space is the wrong measure for a great many reptiles. Crested geckos, chameleons, tree frogs, emerald tree boas and most day geckos are arboreal — in the wild they live in branches and rarely touch the ground. Give one a wide, shallow enclosure and most of it goes unused; give it height, and the animal uses the whole volume.
Height also helps with temperature gradients. Warm air rises, so a tall terrarium naturally forms a warm upper basking zone and a cooler floor, letting the animal thermoregulate by climbing rather than by walking end to end.
Key Features
- Front opening dual doors for easy maintenance and feeding, each opening separately
- Specially designed lock to prevent escape
- Full screen top — allows UVB and infrared to pass through, and lifts off completely for decorating and cleaning
- Five closable wire and tube inlets on both sides for heat rocks, waterfalls and sensors
- Raised bottom plate for mounting a substrate heater underneath
- Extra-high fixed front window — takes deep substrate, a water section, or a reptile den
- Natural rock background included, adding a climbing surface
- Waterproof bottom
Sizes Available
| Size | Dimensions (W x D x H) |
|---|---|
| Mini | 30 x 30 x 45 cm (12 x 12 x 18 in) |
| Small | 45 x 45 x 90 cm (18 x 18 x 36 in) |
| Medium | 60 x 45 x 60 cm (24 x 18 x 24 in) |
Important: The Screen Top and UVB
The full screen top lets UVB through, which is exactly what you want — but mesh still filters a share of it, in some cases up to half. If you mount a UVB bulb above the screen, choose a stronger bulb than you would for an open setup, or mount it inside.
Accessories (Not Included)
- Compact Top or Dual Top canopy sized to your terrarium
- Light Dome fixtures
- Hygrometer, thermometer or Combometer
- Additional lock (PT2620)
Setting Up
- Place on a level, load-bearing surface. A glass terrarium with substrate, water and decor is heavy.
- Keep out of direct sunlight — glass traps heat quickly and a terrarium in a sunny window can become lethal within hours.
- Set up and run the enclosure for several days, checking temperatures and humidity, before the animal goes in.
