The Exo Terra Tall Terrarium Large is a 90 x 45 x 60 cm glass habitat designed by European herpetologists — the size to choose for a full-grown reptile rather than a juvenile.

Why Size Is Not a Luxury

A 90 cm footprint gives you something a smaller enclosure physically cannot: a real temperature gradient. Reptiles cannot generate their own body heat and regulate it by moving between hot and cool areas. In a short enclosure the basking lamp warms everything, and the animal has nowhere to cool down. In this one you can hold a genuine hot spot at one end and a cool retreat at the other.

The extra 60 cm of height also allows real climbing structure — branches, ledges, foliage — which most species use far more than keepers expect, and which turns a box into something the animal actually occupies.

Specifications

Important: The Screen Top and UVB

The screen lets UVB through, but mesh still filters a share of it — in some cases up to half. In a 60 cm tall enclosure the bulb is already a long way from a ground-level animal, and UV intensity falls off sharply with distance. Use a high-output UVB bulb, or mount it inside.

Setting Up

• Check the weight your surface can carry. A terrarium this size with glass, substrate, water and rockwork is very heavy — use a proper cabinet or stand rated for it.
• Keep out of direct sunlight.
• Run it for several days and confirm temperatures and humidity at both ends before the animal goes in.
