Groomers Choice Soothing Fountain Shampoo - For Dog - 4kg

The Groomers Choice Soothing Fountain Shampoo is the one to reach for when the skin, not the dirt, is the problem. Chamomile, witch hazel, horse chestnut and allantoin over coconut-derived cleansers and jojoba oil -- it lathers gently and calms as it washes, so an itchy dog gets through the bath without the scratching that usually follows.

Key Features

• 4kg bulk container: Salon volume, at a far lower cost per wash than the 500ml bottle
• Chamomile and witch hazel: The classic calming botanicals for skin that reacts easily
• Allantoin and horse chestnut: Included to support comfort in irritated skin
• Coconut-derived cleansers: Lather well without stripping the coat
• Jojoba oil and silk protein: Leave the coat conditioned rather than dry
• The gentlest in the range: The default for a dog that reacts to everything else

Ingredients

Water, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Cocamidopropylamine Oxide, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Fragrance, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Chamomile Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Extract, Allantoin, C12-13 Alkyl Lactate, Polyquaternium-10, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, Jojoba Oil, Polyhexamethyleneguanidine Hydrochloride, CI 18820, CI 42080.

How To Use It

• Wet the coat thoroughly with warm water first. Shampoo will not reach the skin through a dry double coat.
• Work it in until a rich lather builds, from the neck down so suds run away from the face.
• Rinse until the water runs clear. Shampoo left in a coat is the usual cause of itching after a bath.
• Towel off, then dry with a dryer and brush the coat as it dries.
• Cover the ears while you rinse.

Soothing Is Not The Same As Medicated

This is worth being clear about. A calming shampoo makes a dog more comfortable for a few days at a time and is genuinely useful for that. It does not treat anything. Persistent itching is nearly always fleas, food, pollen, dust mites, or a skin infection sitting on top of one of those -- and all of them need a vet to work through rather than a different bottle.

Two things that help while you are waiting for an appointment: strip everything else back to one gentle bath every few weeks rather than every week, and rinse for longer than feels necessary. Shampoo residue is itself a common cause of itching after a bath.

Who Makes It

Groomers Choice is a professional grooming range built for salon use -- every shampoo and conditioner comes in a 500ml bottle and a 4kg salon container, so the formula does not change when you scale up. The shampoo range is soap-free and paraben-free, and most of it is built on an aromatherapy base.

Good To Know

• A 4kg container is a salon quantity. If you are washing one dog at home the 500ml bottle of the same formula will almost certainly outlast your interest in it.
• Gentle, but not fragrance-free -- the formula contains fragrance and colourants. For a dog that reacts to perfume specifically, a fragrance-free wash is a better starting point.
• A shampoo cleans; it does not treat disease. Broken, scabby or weeping skin, bald patches, a smell that returns within days of a bath, or scratching to the point of bleeding all need a vet rather than a different bottle.
• Avoid the eyes. If any gets in, flush thoroughly with clean water.
• Cover the pet's ears when you rinse.
• For external use only. Not edible.
• Keep out of reach of children, and store it sealed somewhere cool and dry.
