Exo Terra Fogger Replacement Membrane - For Terrarium

A replacement membrane for the Exo Terra Fogger (PT2080) — the part that actually generates the mist, and the one that wears out.

When to Replace It

If your fogger has become weak, intermittent or stopped producing mist altogether, the membrane is almost always the cause rather than the unit.

The membrane vibrates at ultrasonic frequency to turn water into vapour, and it degrades with use. Mineral scale is what kills it fastest — running a fogger on hard tap water coats the membrane in limescale, which damps the vibration and eventually stops it. This is why the manual recommends distilled or dechlorinated water.

Replacing the membrane is far cheaper than replacing the fogger.

How to Fit It

1. Unplug the unit and detach it from the water container or waterfall.
2. Using the membrane key, turn the ring nut counterclockwise to remove it.
3. Take out the brass washer and the old membrane. Leave the rubber washer in place.
4. Clean any deposits from the ring nut and brass washer with a soft cloth.
5. Fit the new membrane with the black ring side facing down.
6. Reassemble in reverse order.

Two things to get right: the membrane has a front and a back, and fitting it the wrong way round will stop the fogger working. And make sure the inside of the unit cavity is completely dry before reassembling.

Making the Next One Last

• Use distilled or dechlorinated water — this is the single biggest factor in membrane life.
• Never run the fogger dry.
• Wipe the membrane clean periodically rather than waiting for output to drop.
